Choosing a Soft First City

Beijing offers imperial axes and courtyard grain; Shanghai offers lane texture and riverfront modern skyline. Pick one opening temperament. Do not frighten yourself into twelve cities on a first visit.
How many cities is enough?
For 10–14 days, three to four cities is a common, workable range. Protect sleep and dinner as seriously as monuments. Add a fifth only if transit times stay short.
What to Arrange Before You Land
Three things need working solutions before departure: payment, connectivity, and documents.
